AssertID Privacy Policy Highlights
Scope
This notice provides highlights of the full AssertID privacy statement Jump to Full Policy. This notice and privacy statement describe what we do with the information you provide when you create an AssertID credential.
What Information we Collect (details)
- We capture the information you previously provided in your social network profile necessary for us to create your AssertID credential. We retain this information.
- We collect and retain your email address and an optional profile picture that is separate from your social network profile if you choose to provide these.
- We use cookies and other tracking technologies to analyze and understand how you use our service.
What we do with the Information we Collect (details)
- We use your information to create your AssertID, display your badge, and enable your friends to verify your identity.
- Send you required service notices and marketing communications if you choose to receive them.
- We share your personal information only in ways described in our privacy statement. We do not sell, loan, rent, trade, or otherwise share your personal information with third parties unless we provide you notice and choice.
You Retain Control (details)
- What information is displayed on your (public) AssertID credential, and where your AssertID badge is displayed.
- What information is verified by your friends with the exception of email address. Your email address is displayed to friends you invite to verify your AssertID - this is done to help prevent unauthorized use of your account.
- You can unsubscribe from marketing communications by following the unsubscribe instructions included in each email.
Other Information(details)
- To revise or correct inaccuracies of the information in your AssertID, update the information in your social network profile. AssertID will automatically update your credential to reflect these changes.
- Update your email address by going to the MyID tab within AssertID. Your friends will automatically be invited to re-verify your new email address.
- If you no longer wish to use AssertID, follow the uninstall instructions provided by your social network provider.

AssertID, Inc. is committed to protecting your privacy and providing a means
to allow you to safely interact with others on the Web. This privacy statement
describes how we collect and use the personal information you provide to create
your AssertID credential. It also describes the choices available to you regarding
our use of your personal information and the steps you can take to access this
information and to ensure that it is accurate.
Collection and Use of Personal Information
We capture and collect personal information when you install the application and create your AssertID credential. The personal information we obtain from your social network profile. We use this information for display on your AssertID credential within your social network profile and also when you explicitly invite friends to “Verify” your AssertID. We also retain information regarding which attributes have been verified and by whom. For example: we would retain the fact that a friend has verified that your name, status, email address and other self-asserted personal information, as presented in your AssertID, is accurate.
We capture only information you have already provided in your social network profile. If present, we gather the following information when you install the application:
- Photo
- First and last name
- Hometown
- Current location
- Status (e.g. married, single)
- Age
- Your list of friends
- email address
In addition, we collect and retain the following personal information when you create your AssertID credential:
- Alternate email address if you choose to provide one.
- Optionally, a photo separate from that in your social network profile if you choose to provide one.
We use the information we capture and collect to
- Create your AssertID credential
- Authenticate your email address – validate that you control the email address you provided
- Help prevent unauthorized use of your account
- Calculate your Trust Score for display within your social network profile and (optionally) along with the AssertID Badge anywhere you choose to display it.
- Enable friends you invite to verify your identity attributes
- Send notifications of changes to our Privacy Policy
- Send promotional offers if you choose to receive them
Information Sharing
We will share your personal information with third parties only in the ways that are described in this privacy statement. We do not sell, loan, rent, trade, or otherwise share your personal information with third parties without first providing you notice and choice.
We reserve the right to disclose your personal information as required by law (e.g., to comply with a subpoena, warrant, court order, or legal process served on our Web site) and when we believe that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, protect your safety or the safety of others, investigate fraud, and/or respond to a government request.
In the event AssertID, Inc. goes through a business transition, such as a merger, acquisition by another company, or sale of all or a portion of its assets, your personally information will likely be among the assets transferred. You will be notified via email and/or a prominent notice on our website of any such change in ownership or control of your personal information, as well as any choices you may have regarding your personal information.
You Retain Control
We give you control over your information. You can control
- What information (e.g. photo, name, location) is publicly displayed in your AssertID credential.
- What information you want verified by your friends with the exception of your email address which will be displayed only to friends you explicitly invite to verify your identity. This is done to help prevent unauthorized use of your account so be sure to provide an email address your friends will recognize.
- Where your AssertID Badge is displayed
To Unsubscribe from AssertID Promotional Emails
You may opt-out of receiving promotional emails from us by following the unsubscribe instructions included in each email. We will continue to send you updates regarding the AssertID application.
Cookies and Other Tracking Technologies
Cookies
Cookies are very small text files that are stored on your computer when you visit certain web pages. We or third parties may use cookies on our site to:
- Compile aggregate statistics about our site visitors
- Analyze which pages our site visitors visit
- Measure advertising and promotional effectiveness
- Make it easier for you to navigate our site
Log Files
As is true of most Web sites, we gather certain information automatically and store it in log files. This information may include internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, internet service provider (ISP), referring/exit pages, operating system, date/time stamp, and/or page views.
We may use this information, which does not usually identify individual users, to analyze trends, to administer the site, to track users’ movements around the site and to gather demographic information about our user base as a whole.
Correcting and Updating Your Personal Information
You should review your AssertID for accuracy. To revise your personal information, or to correct inaccuracies you should update your social network profile. AssertID will automatically update your AssertID to reflect the relevant changes you made to your social network profile. If you provided a verification photo separate from that in your social network profile then you should go the “My ID” tab within the AssertID application and use the “change” option to update your AssertID photo.
To update the email address associated with your AssertID, go to the “MyID” tab of the AssertID application, click “change” (next to email) and enter a new email address in the “email address” field. If you update your email address, friends that have verified your identity will be invited to re-verify your identity displaying your updated email address. This is to prevent unauthorized use of your account.
Uninstalling AssertID
If you no longer want to use AssertID simply follow the instructions provided by your social network for uninstalling third-party applications. Upon receipt of confirmation that you have uninstalled AssertID, we will delete the email address you provided for verification as well as the verification photo (if one was retained).

Links to Other Web Sites
Our application includes links to other Web sites whose privacy practices may differ from those of AssertID, Inc. If you submit personal information to any of those sites, your information is subject to their privacy statements. We encourage you to carefully read the privacy statement of any Web site you visit.
If you post a comment or respond to a posting on a social network site, blog or AssertID fan page, you should be aware that any personally identifiable information you submit there can be read, collected, or used by other users of those forums, and could be used to send you unsolicited messages.
Security
The security of your personal information is important to us.
We follow generally accepted industry standards to protect the personal information submitted to us, both during transmission and once we receive it. No method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure, however. Therefore, while we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

We may update this policy from time to time as our information practices are modified or changed. If we make any material changes to this policy that affect your personal information, we will notify you by email (sent to the e-mail address specified in your account) or by means of a notice on our application prior to the change.
